Adopted: Kira has found her forever home. We wish her the very best life possible.
Kira is a young, smooth coat border collie with an old soul and street smarts. She was trapped by animal control as a result of a complaint that a pack of dogs was running loose on farmland. Kira was the youngest of the pack (estimated age = 9 months) and suspected to be mostly, if not all, border collie. She is currently learning the comforts of a life with people, receiving love and care she never knew possible.
Kira is quirky and inquisitive. She studies everything! Kira is not aggressive, but she is a little nervous/suspicious – especially around new people and loud noises. She has mixed reactions to other dogs – generally befriending those that give her some space, and rejecting those that don’t. She watches and learns from other dogs, encouraged by them to approach people. Kira could play all day with another canine friend! She is very athletic but does not have much of a herding drive as she prefers being chased over corralling her buddies. She also enjoys simply sitting on her dirt pile in the sunshine in the backyard. Kira has become playful and affectionate with humans, too. She’s extra friendly around meal times and does a funny little march with her front paws when she’s excited! Because of her lack of socialization early on, Kira’s interactions are somewhat awkward, but full of joy.
The ideal home for Kira would be a patient, quiet home environment that understands Kira’s quirks and is happy to give her space and time to adjust. A fenced in backyard is a must (she is not yet leash trained). She would be okay as an only dog or with laid back canine siblings. Kira does well with older kids (middle school +) and adults. Her reactivity to cats is unknown. She does not require a lot of attention, but will be her best self in a forever home that spoils her and is committed to spending time with her – on play, socialization, and general training.
Kira has made tremendous progress during her time in foster and is ready to bond with her forever person/family who will give her the love and understanding she deserves.
